MURDER BY THE BOOK in Houston is one of the United States's oldest and largest mystery bookstores, with a large selection of historical mysteries, both US and UK imprints. Want lists welcome.
The Mystery Bookstore Kate Birkel's Omaha based mystery bookstore sponsors a number of discussion groups, including one devoted to historical mysteries. She also has regular author signings. You can search her large inventory of both US and UK mysteries at the site, which also publishes mystery reviews by CTT member Sally Fellows. Most US paperbacks are discounted 10% and hardcovers 15%.
Mystery Lovers Bookshop Recommended by one of our international CTT group members who has difficulty getting historical mysteries in English where she lives, the Mystery Lovers Bookshop carries backlist and British editions (with an online form to request they order ones they don't carry, including non-mystery), with a membership program (free with your first web purchase) offering free shipping on orders over $45 and accumulated credit toward free books.
POE'S COUSIN - Run by Anne Poe Lehr, who offers a 10% discount to fellow CTT members, if you let her know when ordering - the discount is manual and so will appear on the order but not on her website. Anne is A First Edition bookseller whose specialties include historical mysteries, mostly signed and unread, from all time periods. She has a large collection of UK first editions. Her books can also be found on ABE, Bibliofind, Bookavenue and soon on TomFolio.
Poisoned Pen Press - Mystery specialist small press "publishing excellence in mystery". Offerings are a mixture of original mysteries, quality reprints, and reference books.
Prime Crime Books - is a mystery bookstore located in Ottawa Canada, and recommended by one of the list members. Canadian bookstores are one alternative for people living in the US to acquire British edition only historical mysteries when they don't have a US source with British connections and don't want to get involved with transatlantic shipping fees.
Uncle Edgar's Mystery Bookstore - recommended by a list member as an Indy who cares and makes the effort to help the customer. Who also has lots of British Headline Press, sometimes at used-book prices and a lot of book signings.
